Ashadha Masam 2024: Significance Of This Sacred Month

- The Dakshinayana begins with Ashadam. As the sun moves south, it enters Karkataka Raasi, also known as Karkataka Sankramana. This takes place precisely half a year after Uttarayanam. Devotees worship the Saptamatruka Shakti Goddess, Lord Bhairava, Lord Narasimha, and Mahishasura during the four-month-long Chaturmashya, which begins on Shayna Ekadashi in Ashada Masam.

- The eleventh lunar day, or Ekadashi, of the Shukla paksha of the Ashada month is Shayani Ekadashi, often referred to as the first Ekadashi.

- Since it is considered an unlucky month, no religious ceremonies, such as weddings or griha pravesham, are held at this time.

- It is regarded as the most auspicious day in Coorg and is known as Kakkada month in the Kodava calendar. On this day, specialties like Kakkada payasam and Aati soppu are made.
