Kokila Vrat 2024: Significance Of This Sacred Day

Married and single women alike observe Kokila vrat mostly in northern India and in some regions of western and southern India. Married women are seen to be as fortunate as Akhanda Saubhagyavati, guaranteeing that they would never lose their spouses to death, and they follow the fast for their husbands' long lives. Girls who are single follow this fast in hopes of finding a deserving and moral spouse. Those who follow the Kokila vrat are blessed with money, health, prosperity, and virtuous offspring. They also pass on to the realm of Goddess Parvati.

Kokila Vrat 2024: Rituals Associated With This Sacred Fast

- The Kokila Vrat begins on the same day as Ashadha Purnima. To observe the Vrat, fasting women make care to get up at Brahma Muhurta, or before daybreak, and finish all of their daily routines or home tasks as soon as feasible.

- They then bathe in a solution of amla pulp and water. This routine continues for the following eight to 10 days.

- After taking a bath, the fast begins by worshipping Suryadev with a thick gramme wheat paste.

- After worshipping Suryadev, the first roti of the day is served to the cows, who are considered sacred creatures in Hindu mythology.

- For the next eight days, the ladies continue to worship the cuckoo bird statue, a symbol of Goddess Parvati, with turmeric, sandalwood, kumkum, rice, and Gangajal.

- The devotees fast till dusk and then listen to the Kokila Vrat Katha.

- Breaking the fast by seeing the cuckoo bird or hearing its call might be extremely fortunate.
