Masik Shivratri July 2024: The 14th lunar phase, or Krishna Paksha, occurs every month and is celebrated as Masa Shivratri or Masik Shivaratri. The day of Masik Shivaratri is devoted to worshipping Lord Shiva, the Divine and Supreme Power of the Universe. While Brahma is the Creator and Vishnu is the Preservator, he is one of the Holy Trinity members who is in charge of constructive destruction. The Masik Shivratri in the month of July (Ashadha) is being celebrated on 4th July 2024.

Masik Shivratri July 2024: Significance Of This Day

The festival of Shivratri is a time to connect with Lord Shiva. Every month, on the Chaturdashi tithi of Krishna Paksha, people celebrate Masik Shivratri. Among the most revered Hindu holidays is Shivratri. Devotees of Lord Shiva conduct puja on this day and are bestowed with many forms of money, wealth, good health, and a happy married life.

Masik Shivratri is an auspicious day as it is believed that fasting on this day grants one a better life and success in all future undertakings. It is said that by praying and performing penance on this day, one can accomplish seemingly impossible undertakings. While married women fast for the health and happiness of their spouse and son, single women fast for getting ideal husbands. The significance of the day lies in the fact that fasting on this day guides one's soul towards Moksha, or liberation.

Masik Shivratri July 2024: Puja Vidhi To Please Lord Shiva

- People take bath early in the morning and prepare the puja altar.

- Shivling is bathed with Gangajal, turmeric powder, rose water, milk, curds, ghee, honey, vermillion, and "Bel" leaves.

- Some worshippers give the deity's idols flowers, sprinkle vermillion, and apply sandalwood paste on them.

- Lord Shiva is worshipped by reciting Aarti, or hymns, while conchs are blown and bells are rung.

- A homemade prasad offering is put up on the altar.

- Puja should ideally begin at midnight and be completed by the next morning when devotees fast all day.

- Jagran, or night watch, is observed while kirtans and bhajans uplift the atmosphere.
