THIS DESIGNER UNVEILS DESIGN FOR QATAR'S FIRST-EVER VOCATIONAL SCHOOL

World-renowned French designer Philippe Starck has released his blueprint for the Qatar Preparatory School, set to be the first vocational school focused on education for the creative industries in the Gulf country.

This unveiling came during the Venice Architecture Biennale's exhibition on future Qatari buildings, which runs from May 20th to November 26th.

The school is a groundbreaking project commissioned by Qatar Museums, reported Dezeen.

"Qatar Preparatory School will be the first and only vocational school for the creative industries in the country," said Starck's studio.

"This educational institution is strategically planned to revitalize creative production in Qatar and develop a skilled and inspired workforce to drive the new creative economy."

The vocational school will find its home in the former Qatar Boys Preparatory School building, which was built in 1962 along the B Ring Road to the southwest of central Doha.

The building's original U-shaped, 2,300-square-metre design will be retained and repurposed in Starck’s innovative vision.

The existing concrete walls will be exposed, while a large canopy supported on timber masts will cover the central courtyard.

Strack's plan will feature a series of 3D-printed clay natural air conditioning units, which will be integrated into the existing building.

The system comprises 3D-printed chimneys linked to hollow clay screens that will enable cool air circulation.
